Sara Suleri writes meatless as a memoir of her days in order to show her life at home and through her culture, which is very different. The story itself talks mostly about food, and how food was used as a sort of tool. Sara Suleri learned discipline, structure, truths, lessons, culture, and ideas. Sara Suleri used her memoir in order to demonstrate the changes in food, and how they were used in order to control in ways. The Motherwhit talks about Onnie Lee Logan's experience as a domestic servant and a midwife. Onnie Lee Logan's stories were unique and different talking about her techniques as well as in a way discussing how her race, and gender played into her role in not getting a renewed license. As Onnie Lee Logan was a woman one of sixteen in a black rural family in Alabama. Onnie Lee Logan's story is one that is vital in discussing the faults in the system, especially in women giving birth to their children, and the complications that follow suit.      The whole story is her talking about how she does her work as a midwife, and how she does it is great. Kung Woman by Nisa Word Count:352      From The Life and Words of a ! Kung Woman by Nisa is about Nisa's life in her village growing up as well as her life experience in her marriage. The story is broken up by her early childhood years and her marriage. Nisa explained her life to give others insight into her life, while her village was not able to see her work. Nisa writes a lot about her life from her perspective as a woman and through her mother, as well as her marriage. Kingston goes on throughout the text to talk about events and stories from her childhood. Kingston explains how her childhood was one that was different from most as her family had different ideas, beliefs, and culture. Kingston's story talks about her family and how her parents were Chinese immigrants. She talked about the differences in cultures and the overall lack of communication and understanding. These differences were due to the fact that her mother was raised with Chinese ideals and did not want to believe anything in American culture, although Kingston was raised in American culture. Pg. 527 Berly Markham From West with the Night Word Count: 278      From West with the Night is a story about Beryl Markham's life. Specifically, it is a story about her flying her plane to pick up her friend's husband and workers from an expedition in Africa. Beryl Markham is trying to find them and pick them up as they had barely any food left to last them for a while. Beryl Markham had found that they were stuck within the landscape. Only two of them who asked for the expedition had worked to make a runway to get reduced, while the others did nothing as they had no food and were starving. The story talks about how Beryl Markham used her skills in order to land and make several trips on a tiny runway to save these men. In a way, the story talks about her bravery and how she was an amazing pilot who has seen a lot of things in her day.   ...

The tale talks about her life working on her land, in which she discusses what she sees and who she comes into contact with. Isak Dinesen talks a lot about the animals surrounding her in ways that personify them. Isak focuses particularly on animals that had held a place within her family or so-called tribe. She discusses a dog named Dusk that was a specific breed one that was the only kind of dog that was noble. However, this set up the story's main focus and animal, Lulu the fawn. The fawn that set up her life and was the main focus of Dinesens life, Lulu was family. Lulu had a place within the tribe and had power, as well as strength.       The quote above talks about Dusk. Pg. 470 Totto-Chan Word Count: 276      Totto-Chan is a story that is broken up into three distinct parts, in which they talk about Totto-Chan's experience at Tomoe. The sections are broken up into three sections that are Ameutra Drama, Chalk, and Tea Party. Through these sections, we learn about the school itself and how they treat the children as well as how the children learn. Ameutra Drama talks about the students learning a new way of music as well as the students trying to perform a play. Chalk talks about how the children learned to write out music, and new ways of teaching. Tea party talks about the new idea and the creation of a tea party for a going away party that the students forever think about and use.  ...

Carolyn is an excellent example of this as she talks about for the majority of the text her relationship with her mother throughout her childhood. Steedman mother tried her best to push her views on Steedman with wealth, them being frugal, and even her relationship with her father. In this text, you can see her mother's dream conflicted with hers as she wanted a less traditional life her mom just wanted to be a celebrity.
