    The story of the warrior woman by Maxine Hong Kingston is intriguing. Kingston goes on throughout the text to talk about events and stories from her childhood. Kingston explains how her childhood was one that was different from most as her family had different ideas, beliefs, and culture. Kingston's story talks about her family and how her parents were Chinese immigrants. She talked about the differences in cultures and the overall lack of communication and understanding. These differences were due to the fact that her mother was raised with Chinese ideals and did not want to believe anything in American culture, although Kingston was raised in American culture. Kingston's story is one that demonstrates miscommunication, struggles between mother and daughter, and the idea of not being able to evolve and adapt to different cultures.

    The quote that I had chosen was in order to demonstrate the struggles between ideals, and the struggles within the family itself. The quote is talking about her mother explaining to her that she should always lie to Americans or Ghosts. That her family was not really real, she explained that they should never do things or say anything to Americans. Which even goes along with the superstition with the candy her mother so against American culture. She clashed her ideas and American culture, which could be her way of just trying to preserve their way, but she ends up clashing more with Kingston. She causes issues with her own daughter due to the different views.
