    Bernadette Devlin demonstrated how she was raised throughout this text, in how she found her love for politics. Devlin talked about how from a very young age she showed pride in her Irish heritage and won a contest speaking about poems fighting for Northern Ireland. She sparked something in herself to fight for her idea of northern Ireland. Although her sisters were very different from her, she was able to face people who hated her ideas. Which inevitably lead her to a school that only taught her about the Irish and not about English. Although it also come with challenges and forced her to grow and fight for what she believed in. 

    The quote above demonstrates the ideas in which she faced that impacted her time at school. Even though she was being taught about Northern Ireland and what it meant to be Irish there were still setbacks. Women were still always thought of in a way that wasn't able to progress due to the fact of religion. Which plays a role in all aspects of life demonstrating why women had a hard time fighting for rights and even fighting for what they believed in. No matter what there was always some type of scrutiny that they faced. This text demonstrates the idea of religion and how it put women into a category in which they were seen in an outdated way. A way in which they had to stick to gender roles of wearing dresses and being nuns.
