    The quote I chose was one which I believed showed the idea of colonization and oppression that these little girls had to go through. The first part of this text is talking about Santha Rama Rau and her sister going to an English school. In which the school decided to take their Indian names from them and give them English ones. The idea of a grown woman giving you a name, that's not your name because it's too difficult is traumatic. These girls have to start going by English names in which they might forget who they are and where they come from. These Santha Rama Rau and her sister also feel like they don't fit anywhere due to their culture. Although they had to change their way of life, their names, and even what they wore to implement themselves into English culture. This demonstrates the idea of colonization with one culture taking over another and forcing them to leave behind their culture and adapt to their own culture. 

    The next section of this text called the Ghost in the Garden talked about a story/ idea from her culture, that a ghost haunts her garden. The ghost was a woman who had died in a well after her husband had cheated on her. Santha Rama Rau talked about how she and her sister would stay up in awareness of this ghost due to the fact they were scared that she was haunting them. The discrepancy between the first section and the second section is vast. They both almost seem to show life before school and their ideas in Indian culture to their life-changing due to the anglo school.
